Earlier this month, two significant events took place. 1) January 11th marked the 50th anniversary of the first Surgeon General's Report on smoking and health. 2) The U.S. Surgeon General released"The Health Consequences of Smoking - 50 Years of Progress" report. Since that first report in 1964 - smoking prevalence has been cut in half and more than 20 million Americans have died because of smoking. The new report attributes more diseases than ever to smoking and notes that nearly a half a million Americans die prematurely from smoking each year and more than 16 million Americans suffer from a smoking-related disease.
