Another school board — Elkhorn — plans to ban e-cigarettes

Electronic cigarettes are getting no more love in the Elkhorn Public Schools than they are in several other metropolitan area school districts.

The school board on Monday proposed banning e-cigarettes and other vapor devices on all school property. The board is expected to vote on the proposal next month.

The district, which already bans tobacco products, would add the new devices to four sections of its policy that prohibits tobacco use by students, staff and the public. E-cigarettes and vapor devices are battery-operated and deliver nicotine, flavorings and other chemicals.

The Millard and Papillion- La Vista school boards took similar steps last month. The Ralston district is discussing a ban.

A law recently signed by the governor makes it a misdemeanor for children younger than 18 to use vapor products or alternative nicotine products in Nebraska.
